This Is My Proof by Duane Michals, 1974
“This Photograph is my proof. There was that afternoon, when things were still good between us, and she embraced me, and we were so happy. It did happen. She did love me. Look see for yourself!”

Summer burns on in Alabama.
I met with a nonprofit I’m doing some volunteer work for yesterday, and we made small talk about how cool it has been for the past few days. It hasn’t been under 85 degrees in weeks. In Chicago, I must have had selective amnesia about this face-searing heat.
But it will make for a beautiful September and October if we’re lucky!

This young photographer continues to impress me.
A Restless Transplant consistently produces gorgeous photos of his current home in the Northeast. I always see some of William Christenberry and Walker Evans in his work.

At the end of this month, I’ll drive six hours though Alabama and north Florida to vacate with my family. I will probably be doing the drive, through what I think has to be one of the most colorful areas in the country, by myself. So I might make a day of it and photograph it all the way, like I’ve always wanted to do.
Along with the awesome church marquees (“Don’t worry— even Moses was a basket-case!”), there are always azaleas, wild life and homes that I want to document. And there’s a one-lane road through Tate’s Hell that you just have to see to understand.

Love and envy, inspired by The Selby.
First of all, I want that kitchen. Well, maybe minus the red cabinets but definitely plus all the accoutrement.

From the rooter to the tooter, as Justin Wilson would say.

Not so sure about the swing but I love the colors.

See? Colors.

I love the combo of wood, leather and goldenrod yellow.

Now I understand why House is so obsessed with Steve McQueen.
This life is absurd.

The last of the Justin Townes Earle posts for a little while, I think.
Look at that long-legged man. Taking after his namesake.

What it really feels like.
I just wish we had gotten 25 of these songs instead of 8.

Didn’t I say I wanted to start dressing more like Tom Petty? This picture reminds of this music video.

The man has a way with hats.

Yep, still want to dress like him.
