Secondary goal: Make enough money to buy all the things.
Featuring a bunch of songs off the new album.
Something to study to today. I have to figure out where I’m going to see him on this tour. Gah.
I’ve had my fair share of bad wake-ups. There was the time in the parking garage in Iowa City, the time I slept through a midterm, and the time when I woke up to discover a raccoon in my sheets (I found out later it was the family’s pet.. but still). There was also freshman year of college when I would periodically forget to program the song of my iHome alarm and it would default to the first artist: 12 Rods’ “So Glad That It’s Over”.. the first line of which is “Today has sucked.”
Today’s playlist promises slow-building tunes that will provide you with nice, happy wake-ups when blared by your alarm clock, and I must say, it delivers. It is a really cohesive and comforting set of jams.
Plus, it features Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson, “Chan Chan” and the score from Forrest Gump (plus some other songs I’d never heard but really like)… yeah, its no wonder that its creator and I were sorority sisters.

Click the link above. Check it out. It will not ruin your Tuesday.
A random and meandering read, but a good one. On Auburn football, the A-day game, and a middle of nowhere hipster music fest featuring one of my favorites, Those Darlins.

Hightlights: “But, at the same time, too much ain’t-we-neat, back-slapping from the “different” crowd does nothing. It’s a different verse of the same song.”
“I will be there next fall, screaming, cheering and jeering, my conscious mind telling me football doesn’t really matter while my body, rebelling against all higher thought, is racked by chills from the student sections’ rendition of “Livin’ on a Prayer.””

So I have posted this on like every social media-type outlet I subscribe to, but I am super proud! Me and Danny’s new project wound up on Thrillist Chicago!
Check it out. And like they said, rock some tunes or submit your own!
My friend Mason is headed to Coachella tomorrow on his own. He is an adventurous soul. I am SO BUMMED that there is no way I could afford to go with him. He has promised to swing by The Avett Brothers for me.
Anyway, check the songs he’s liking and the bands he’ll be seeing at the link above. It’s gonna be a bumppppyyyy riiiiiide!

A new tumblr for daily tunes and musings, and a side project that I’m working on with @pragerd and @nickwichman. It came to me and Danny, when we were sitting in Potbelly’s, appreciating the tunes that the local talent was selecting and talking about how great roadtrip playlists are.
My first playlist coming soon. Danny’s and Emily’s are up now.
Still a work in progress, but spread it and share it as you see fit. And of course, submit your own playlist! I’m looking at you, Mitchell London.
Folk rock from 1950s ranch house basement in Birmingham.
Not bad either.
My cousin toured Europe drumming for one of these artists, too! The Birmingham Tapes “is a compilation of Birmingham musicians recording their songs in the same analog studio in the spring of 2009. All songs were recorded live onto a reel-to-reel tape machine. No computers were used during the recording or mixing of this compilation.”
I don’t think I could have made up something I would want to read more. Joe Kwon, you made my day.
Good thing I will be on a plane to Denver, up in the sky where no werewolves can get me.
Hat tip Ken.
The new Beach House album, Teen Dream.
It’s good. You should listen to it. Especially if you are stressed. Danke, NPR.
Fair warning, I haven’t seen Avatar. But this is hilarious: “James Cameron’s completely immersive spectacle “Avatar” may have been a little too real for some fans who say they have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora.”
And you aren’t going to Hogwarts either. Time for a therapy session.
(Hat tip, Schroey.)
“Meet Me Here at Dawn” by Cass McCombs. Andrew Bird covered this last night. I’ll take music recs from him, I guess.
